I’m just finding out about these 2 games happening tonight & tomorrow night.
Tulsa Junior Oilers (WSHL junior level) are traveling to Springdale to face off against Arkansas Razorbacks (ACHA D3 college). They will play 2 games this weekend at Jones Center, Friday & Saturday nights at 7:30 pm. Arkansas says they will broadcast the game on ustream: www.ustream.tv/channel/hoghockey
Here’s an article about this weekend’s matchup via University of Arkansas: http://newswire.uark.edu/articles/21959/urec-ice-hockey-club-takes-on-tulsa-oilers-in-home-opener
There’s a little over a week until most of the college hockey teams in this area get their seasons underway.
The teams in this area are NOT NCAA teams (higher level of college hockey). They are members of the American Collegiate Hockey Association (http://achahockey.org/).
My favorite of these 3 teams, OU. They’re in Division 1 & play their home games at the Blazers Ice Center in Oklahoma City. Not only can you find most game updates on twitter & facebook, you can listen &/or watch their home games online for FREE! Schedule: http://www.ouhockey.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=58&Itemid=69
While OSU doesn’t have a team (that I know of, heard of one forming a few years back, but nothing else about it since), there’s still a Bedlam Battle on the ice with University of Central Oklahoma. They’re also in Division 1 of the ACHA & play their games at Arctic Edge Ice Center in Oklahoma City. Their home games are broadcast through FASThockey for a fee & I’ll spare you of my feelings on this website. Schedule: http://ucohockey.com/schedule.asp
Both of these teams are also members of a new league, Western Collegiate Hockey League. Other members are Colorado, Colorado State, Arizona & Arizona State. http://www.westernchl.com/
Finally, I must include another team I was introduced to that lead to me finding the above teams, Arkansas. The “Icehogs” as they’re commonly referred to, are in the lower Division 3 & play their home games at Jones Center in Springdale. Some home games have been played on ustream, but no audio & it wasn’t a guarentee. Twitter & Facebook updates are the best way to keep up to date on them. Their website isn’t working very well, either, but their schedule is up for viewing. http://arkansas.sechchockey.com/?page_id=21
Arkansas is also members of the South Eastern Collegiate Hockey Conference. Other members include Alabama, Ole Miss, Auburn & Mississippi State in the west, with South Carolina, Florida, Georgia, Vanderbilt & Tennessee in the east. http://sechchockey.com/
UCO starts things this Friday & Saturday at home against Texas A & M, while Arkansas visits OU for both of their first 2 games this season September 20 & 21.
My 2 favorite college teams face off on September 20th to get their seasons going. (OU is ACHA D1, Arkansas is ACHA D3). WSHL starts September 20th as well, but Tulsa Junior Oilers first game is October 11th. NHL starts October 1st, AHL & OKC Barons October 4th, ECHL October 5th, CHL & Tulsa Oilers October 18th & SPHL October 25.
It’s the most wonderful time of the year!

Tulsa musician that will be missed by many.
Didn’t feel very well when I woke up, so I didn’t attend the EP Release for Young Lyons Saturday.
6 teams in action Saturday, Denver @ Allen, Fort Worth @ Quad City, and Rapid City @ Missouri. This was due or die for Denver & Quad City and the effort was there for both.
I listened to the Denver broadcast, it seemed that Allen was there to start fights, while Denver wanted to play hockey. Allen played the better game unfortunately, their 6-2 win secured their spot in the next round of the playoffs.
Quad City & Fort Worth seemed to have trouble getting the puck into the net, as Fort Worth advanced to the next round with a 1-0 win.
Missouri was trailing at the 2nd intermission 2-1, but were able to pull out the 5-2 win against Rapid City. Game 6 is Tuesday and game 7 if needed will be Wednesday to determine who moves on to the next round.
Missouri/Rapid City winner will face off against Allen in the next round, while Wichita & Fort Worth prepare for battle.
